What Is Delta-9 THC?
Delta-9 THC is the main psychoactive compound in cannabis. Federal hemp definitions use a 0.3% delta-9 THC threshold by dry weight, but state rules and product-specific requirements can be more restrictive.

What Delta-9 THC Is
Delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol, usually shortened to Delta-9 THC, is the cannabinoid responsible for the classic cannabis high. It is the benchmark that most other cannabinoids are measured against.
It occurs naturally in the cannabis plant and is what people generally mean when they simply say THC. Everything from euphoria to relaxation to the munchies traces back to it.
How It Works in the Body
Delta-9 binds to CB1 receptors in your endocannabinoid system, which are concentrated in the brain. That binding produces euphoria, altered perception, relaxation, and increased appetite.
The same interaction underlies its therapeutic uses, which is why medical programs cover it for conditions like chronic pain and nausea. Our Texas medical card guide explains how patients access it legally.
Hemp-Derived Versus Marijuana Delta-9
Chemically, Delta-9 is the same molecule regardless of source. The legal difference comes down to the plant it is extracted from and the concentration in the final product.
Federal hemp language uses a 0.3% delta-9 THC threshold by dry weight. That does not make every product lawful in every state, and it does not replace labeling, testing, age-verification or food-safety requirements.
Is Delta-9 THC Legal in Texas?
Texas distinguishes consumable hemp products from marijuana and from low-THC cannabis supplied through the Compassionate Use Program. The answer depends on the product, measured cannabinoid content, source and current state rules, not simply the word “Delta-9” on the package.

Delta-9 Versus THCA
This is the most common point of confusion. THCA is the raw acid form found in living cannabis and is not intoxicating until you heat it. Delta-9 is the active form that gets you high.
When you smoke or vape THCA flower, heat converts THCA into Delta-9. Edibles labeled Delta-9 are already active, so they work without any heating.
Dosing Delta-9 Edibles
Edibles hit harder and last longer than inhaled THC because your liver converts Delta-9 into a stronger metabolite. Start with 5 to 10 milligrams and wait a full 90 minutes before taking more.
Effects can last four to eight hours, so plan accordingly. The golden rule is start low and go slow, since you can always take more but cannot undo too much.
Is It Right for You
Delta-9 suits people who want reliable, well-understood effects for relaxation, sleep, appetite, or fun. If you are drug tested, avoid it, since it will show up.
If you are brand new, edibles from a trusted maker like High Hippy or Texakana are an easy, measured starting point. Read the label, respect the dose, and give it time.
